The Norwegian musician Marius Neset has every reason to be proud. Recently, legendary music critic John Fordham of The Guardian attended a sold-out concert at the iconic Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in London and dubbed Neset nothing less than the new Stan Getz. The American magazine Downbeat has also named Marius Neset—uniquely, as the only European—on their list of jazz musicians who will undoubtedly shape the future of jazz. Even now, he’s already being called a living jazz legend.
With his latest album, HAPPY, Neset demonstrates that he has his finger firmly on the pulse of contemporary jazz. With a confident touch, he effortlessly weaves influences from the electronic funk music of the 1970s and 1980s—à la Kool & The Gang, Stevie Wonder, and David Sanborn—into a dazzling mix of fun, funky jazz.
Neset has shared the stage with many of the world’s greatest musicians and performed at some of the most prestigious venues across the globe, including Royal Albert Hall in London and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. At Godset, you can look forward to experiencing him alongside an insanely virtuosic power ensemble featuring some of the most prominent names on today’s international jazz scene. It promises to be nothing short of legendary—and loads of fun!
HAPPY is Marius Neset’s latest album, released on the internationally renowned record label ACT, as with his previous works. His discography spans everything from masterful solo albums (A New Dawn) to monumental orchestral works (Snowmelt, Viaduct, and Geyser). He has also composed pieces for ensembles such as the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Danish National Big Band. You might also know him from the legendary jazz-rock band JazzKamikaze.
